Our Logo & Name
The Kulap Primary School logo is a clean, bold and contemporary shield design that conveys strength, protection and resilience, while reflecting tradition and academic rigour.
Within the shield, abstract lines suggest the open pages of a book—symbolising knowledge, learning and the creative capacity of each student—stages of growth like a plant developing over time, and flowing waterways, feeding into and becoming one community representing adaptability, resilience and life’s continuous journey. The water motif also acknowledges the significance of local lakes and waterways in fostering growth and renewal.
Five purple shapes represent the school’s core values—Respect, Teamwork, Perseverance, Honesty and Integrity, and Excellence—while three gold stars signify achievement, aspiration and the pursuit of excellence.
Kulap, pronounced “KOO-lup”—comes from the Bunurong Boonwurrung word for emu. The emu is a symbol of courage, strength and determination, encouraging diligence, hard work and respect. As an animal that cannot move backwards, the emu represents continuous forward progress—mirroring the school’s belief in perseverance and ongoing growth. In the logo, the curved line reflects the emu’s neck, with a gold diamond forming its beak.
Together, these references to an emu, books, plants and water exist within and beyond the shield, expressing the school’s commitment to cultivating growth, strength, knowledge and resilience in its students, preparing them for lifelong learning beyond their time at Kulap Primary School.
