At Kulap Primary School, our Buddy Program pairs Prep students with mentors from Grades 5/6, fostering meaningful connections across age groups and building a strong sense of community. This program helps our youngest learners settle into school life while giving older students opportunities to develop leadership, responsibility, and social skills.
During buddy sessions, Grade 5/6 students support their Prep partners with activities such as reading, arts and crafts, and playground games. These interactions boost confidence, encourage friendship, and strengthen communication and empathy for both age groups.
The program runs every fortnight, starting in the middle of Term One, with regular sessions beginning in Term Two. This timing allows Foundation students to settle into classroom routines before taking on additional activities. As the year progresses, buddies become more involved in whole-school events, including preparations for the 100 Days of School celebration.
Through the Buddy Program, students feel supported, connected, and valued, creating a nurturing school culture that enhances their overall learning experience.
